Embroider with Batting Secured to Backing Fabric

1. Touch to save the combined pattern to the machine's memory.

   

2. To embroider only the trapunto-style pattern, select the decorative pattern with , and touch to delete it. Touch [Embroidery].

   Be sure to save the combined pattern before deleting the decorative pattern. The saved pattern is used in the next section.

3. Touch [Layout], then touch to add basting stitches.

   Do not move the pattern after adding the basting stitch to ensure that it stays in the center of the embroidery frame.

   You can change the distance from the pattern to the basting stitches by using [Embroidery Basting Distance] on the settings screen. If you want to change the distance, touch to remove the basting stitches, change the settings, and then touch again to add the basting stitches.

   

4. Hoop the backing fabric.

   For best results, place the stabilizer material (such as a lightweight cutaway stabilizer) under the backing fabric to achieve a cleaner finish.

   Using a magnetic frame, which keeps the fabric firmly in place, is recommended.

5. Place a single or double layer of batting on top of the backing fabric and temporarily secure the four corners with tape.

   Use batting that is either a single layer or double layer and less than 10 mm (approx. 3/8 inch) thick. As a guide, raise the presser foot with the presser foot lifter button, and the batting should be thin enough to pass under the presser foot without touching it.

   If you are embroidering a decorative pattern with batting, prepare batting larger than the decorative pattern.

   Make sure the batting does not protrude from the embroidery frame.

      CAUTION

      • Using thick batting may cause the needle to break.
      • If you use fluffy or fuzzy batting, place a water soluble stabilizer or a thin tear-away stabilizer as a topper on top of the batting, and secure it with tape. This will prevent the embroidery presser foot from catching on the batting during embroidery. After the embroidery is finished, remove the topper.

6. Set the embroidery frame in the machine and start the embroidery.

   For best results, we recommend setting [Max Embroidery Speed] to [600 spm] on the settings screen.

   If threading the upper thread is difficult, touch to move the embroidery frame.

   • If the basting stitch did not form at the beginning, press the reinforcement stitch button to sew reinforcement stitches before starting the basting stitch.

7. When embroidery is finished, remove the embroidery frame from the machine and remove the basting stitches.

   Do not remove the backing fabric and batting from the embroidery frame.

8. If you prefer, trim the batting along the edge of the stitching.

   First, roughly cut the batting along the outer edge of the stitching, then carefully trim closer to the stitching line.

   If you are using double layers of batting, you may trim only one layer.

   You can also proceed to the next step without trimming the batting.
